JOHN MARSHALL has been a qualified surveyor since 1977 and has practised in France since 1980. He has been resident in the South since 2002 and to date has advised clients on over 2500 French properties. They range from châteaux and luxury villas to farms and maisons de village. They have been located throughout the South from Geneva and La Rochelle down to the Mediterranean and Pyrénées.

He is qualified internationally as a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Member No. 0056086) and is a Member of the Society of the Environment. He is qualified and trained within France as an Adhèrent of the Compagnie Nationale des Experts Immobiliers (No.1287).

According to recent reports the French courts have been reluctant to give judgements against surveyors who are not members of a French organisation of experts, so it is this latter qualification that should give you the most confidence.

He is fully government registered as an “expert immobilier” (SIREN 443 468 228), insured for professional indemnity/responsibilité civile professionelle by Covea Risks (part of the MMA Group) contract No. 113 520 675 under a scheme written especially for the CNEI and he is permanently resident in France.

He provides Valuation Reports for international banking clients including Barclays, Lloyds TSB, HSBC, Danske Bank, Nykredit and many Private Banks based in London, Luxembourg & Switzerland.

He is instructed by the Courts of  England & Wales to act as a joint independent expert in the matter of the valuation of French residential property.

He is a consultant to the Channel 4 programme “Selling Houses Abroad” and writes articles on property defects and maintenance for several magazines and websites.
